I’m so lonesome I’m so lonesome I could die Since you left me babe I’ve done nothing but drink and cry Done you wrong pretty babe I treated you so unkind I can’t stand being alone it’s driving me out of my mind Look at me babe I’m such a mess such a wreck I’ll drink another bottle till I pass out on the deck Come back to me baby I can’t live without you I’ll do anything you want so long I can be with you

Got a few bucks in my pocket got a few songs in my head Staying here’s getting me nowhere it’s giving me the Blues instead Loaded up and hit the highway feeling high and feeling free Head out west to Frisco bay may-be down south to New Orleans Highway fever Just outside Louisville Kentucky there she was hitching a ride I guess we’re both felt pretty lucky driving to Memphis side by side We were both feeling on fire We just had to burn it down When we couldn’t get any higher She said goodbye and turned around Drove to Tucson Arizona it’s so hot there I’m gonna die Bought me a 6 pack of corona drove off the A.C. on high Ran out of money in Riverside still got my guitar and my songs A couple of gigs in this one dive just enough to keep moving on Highway fever

South of New Mexico in the town of silver city Lived one of the great outlaws a kid by the name of Billy Quick on the trigger oh Lord don’t mess with the kid Any chance for a good life he lost when he was fourteen Billy’s mom got sick and died things got tough and things got mean He was wild and crazy oh Lord don’t mess with the kid Fell in with a gang of rustlers they spread fear throughout the land Stealing cows and stealing horses that’s how Billy became a man Out in the desert in the arms of a senorita He was shot by Pat Garret in a mexican hacienda Heaven or hell oh Lord don’t mess with the kid

Early one morning at the break of dawn I woke up in my bed and I saw my baby was gone Early one morning my baby was gone I don’t know what I did wrong I don’t know why she left she was the only one Early one morning my baby was gone Asked her best friend what was going on She just said she didn’t have a clue I knew something was wrong Early one morning my baby was gone Well I’m sitting here my eyes on the front door I have this bad feeling my babe won’t come back no more Early one morning my baby was gone

You got what you wish for all your dreams come true Found someone to give you more spend his money on you You got your mansion on a hill your pool and your hottub You got your shiny « Coupedeville » a table at a country club But it’s never enough to keep you satisfied what you really want money can’t buy You may hang out with Senators ride in a limousine You may be on the cover of a famous magazine With your diamonds and pearls your skin wrinkle free You might fool the world babe but you don’t fool me It’s never enough to keep you satisfied what you really want money can’t buy You may wear fancy clothes eat with a silver spoon You may own a jet plane a hot air balloon You may walk on marble floors sleep in satin sheets But you always want more to fulfill your needs Cause it’s never enough to keep you satisfied what you really want money can’t buy

The Gig 04:34
Walk in the bar with my guitar still early in the day Gotta haul stuff from the car tonight we’re gonna play Put the gear up on the stage not much room to move around The band is on their way I think I’ll take a look around Just a few folks drinking beer under the dim light We gotta get us some new gear those speakers don’t sound right The players are here the place starting to fill up I drink up the rest of my beer say high start setting up We’re gonna play till early morning we’re gonna fill the air with music Rock this bar till they turn out the lights We know we won’t make much money but we’ll give it all we got and that’s no lie Bartender’s ringing last call we just sang our last song I’m sitting my back to the wall most everyone is gone Satisfied and proud feeling like real stars We laugh and joke on that cramped stage feeling alright Then reality sets in walking back to my car A sense of loneliness grabs me as I drive into the night We’re gonna play till...

Not so long ago in Hemphill Texas they were on their way to help a friend The air was full of joy cause it was Christmas they didn’t know that hell was round the bend A big fat sheriff and his deputies just wanted to have a little fun Loyal Gardner junior and his buddies found themselves at the wrong end of a gun Loyal junior he knew wrong from right he never had trouble with the law But the lawmen’s plan was carried out through the night And the light of morning Loyal never saw A trial was put together in a hurry did the lawmen violate his rights They were found not guilty by a white jury Loyal junior was as black as night If you ever go to Hemphill Texas and your skin is anything but white You may never see another Christmas cause down there the law says white is might

It's alright 03:26
Down the road there is a light waiting for us all No more pain and no more fights only love is all Won’t you put away the fear and you won’t go wrong Won’t you wipe away the tear won’t you sing a song Oh it’s alright Help the young who need to know there’s no power in a gun They need love so they will grow like a flower needs the sun Help the old who are put away in some strange cold home They need love until the day they’ll be free to roam Oh it’s alright There’s a way to make it through the pain and the anger The answer lies inside you you’ll find it somehow Don’t drag the past around don’t live in the future There’s not even today all you have is now Oh it’s alright

I'm in love 03:15
She’s walking down the street Lord what a sight Just as pretty as she can be that woman is alright I’m sitting across the way watching her move like a queen Lord I can only say she’s the prettiest girl I’ve seen I’m in love Other men they stop and stare they got lust in their eyes She just smiles she doesn’t care she’s just a dream passing by She’s coming my way she’s looking straight at me That girl blows me away and I’m as lucky as can be I’m in love She’s my woman she’s my love my sun my queen And I thank the Lord above Life’s the best it’s ever been

Going to the station catch the first train out of town I don’t care where I go Lord you know I just can’t stick around My baby she left me she got herself another man If I don’t leave her soon Lord I’ll shoot him down if I can I think I’ll go to Memphis I’ll go down to old Park’s spot I heard some people talking they say the music’s really hot I gotta catch that train Lord you know I gotta get out of here My baby don’t love me I’ll just have to disappear Me and old J&B we got some talking to do I can’t wait to get to Memphis I wanna hear that downhome Blues Hear that Delta blues
